Snowdon -1085m

Snowdon is the highest mountain in Wales standing at 1085m. It is by far the easiest of the 3 peaks mountains given that you get a helping hand with the ascent starting at Pen Y Pass from 359m.

Our route takes us from the car park at Pen Y Pass opposite the Youth Hostel following the 'Miner's Track'. This well made track was originally made for the miners to quickly access the mine workings strewn all over the mountain as you will see during your ascent and descent. The track provides very easy walking and ascent past the reservoir called Llyn Llydaw which has a fantastic causeway that you will cross. Above this reservoir is Glaslyn, a natural mountain lake situated in beautiful and stunning coire caused as a result of glaciation. Glaslyn reflects wonderful colours due to the copper within the waters deposited as result of the mining many years ago.

Ascending above Glaslyn the path steepens and become a little broken and then soon joins the Pyg Track. The path from this point is well pitched in places and takes a few short scrambling sections where at time you might find yourself crouchng and using your hands for extra support. After a few zig zags you reach the col at 998m where the obvious finger stone can be found - Pigtop Pillar. From this point it is an easy 600m walk to the summit of the mountain following a good path along the edge of the coire lip. The famous Snowdon railway line is to your right all of the way to the summit station.
